Arsenal v tottenham - lets stuff them chickens!!

Morning Gunners!

Today we have the north London derby. It kicks off at 4 pm and it is a huge match of massive significance. If we lose we go 7 points behind and if we win we close the gap to 1. Is it impossible to close a 7 point gap? No, we over took them last year from further behind and it could happen again. As a tactic or strategy though, it would make more sense to grab the points today. It is a 6 pointer and making them drop points is as important as us gaining them.

All week the sporting press have been building up this fixture, building up the humanzee as a world beater and talking about the consequences of the result. One would have thought that the british press would be going into overload about the fixture today. And perhaps thats why so many are running with the takeover story today, north london derby day.

The build up has reached a peak and piled on the pressure, the papers have got to the level of hype they would have you believe that losing the match not only mean we would finish outside of the top four. But the world’s surface would crack up and the club would fall into a cavern where we would be set upon by a pack of flying, hippo faced, dragon-zombies. The zombified creatures would breath their putrid disease over all that wear red and white and soon enough we would be “looking in bins for something to eat finding a dead rat and thinking it was a treat”.

Seriously, where could the press go from there? So the majority have run with a story that: “A source” has informed them that a Middle Eastern consortium is going to take over the club before Arsenal spiral into obscurity (perhaps into flying, hippo faced, dragon-zombie land).

Will this happen? Who knows? If silent Stan doesn’t want to sell, it wont. If he does want to sell, it might. Is it strange this story has come out on NLD day? No, not really. If we win then the story will be of a club that has potential but needs investment. If we lose, then the story is that the club needs investment. I think most of us wanted a bit more investment already though. With FFP coming in next year, it would be difficult for the club, who has a very public P&L to go down the mega spending rout. I’m sure we will find out more with time.

I hope the story doesn’t affect the way we play today, it shouldn’t, but you never know what gets into the heads of a footballer... The press love to destabilise people/teams/etc... they build them up to knock them down.

On the other hand, it could be someone from the consortium trying to put a wedge between the current owners and the fans. So they can ride in as white knights and save us like Diabys in distress.

As discussed on yesterday's PodCast, I don’t think we will stick someone on Bale to neutralise his effect. I wouldn’t be surprised however if Rambo was told to keep an eye on him when he comes infield and if he swaps to the right. Stopping the service he gets in good positions, might be a way to get him to drop deep too.

We can win this match, we can finish above them this season, we have to go out there today and bust a gut to win the match. Play with confidence and purpose from kick off and we have a good chance of winning. The fans will be right behind the team, in sure there will be a excellent atmosphere I hope they can harness the energy and play sp*rs off the pitch.

My boss keeps telling me “hope is not a strategy”, so lets just go there and stuff them!!

Come on you GUNNERS!!!!!
