So we spring into another week with the enthusiasm and
energy of a spaniel on a summers day, when he has heard his favourite word… “Walkies”.
So the lilly white chokers from the lane dropped three
points yesterday. Should we be able to win at Swansea on the weekend we will
have closed the gap back to 4 points with 9 games left to play. We need them to
choke their way through a few more matches, so we can celebrate St Totteringhams
day. They have a few tricky matches coming up now so fingers crossed their
choke yesterday, turns into a full on strangle which suffocates them and they
fall in to a brain damaging coma (not that we would notice the difference).
First up we have a Champions League match against Bayern.
Now, I don’t anticipate us going to the Allianz, convincingly beating them and
making it through to the next round. I do however want us to go there and have
a proper go at them. The temptation might be to play a weakened side and only
play at 80% so we don’t pick up any injuries. This would make sense as we need
to stay fit and sharp for Swansea. I would be really annoyed if we do that
though. What is the point in qualifying for the CL if we are not going to try
and progress? What message would it send to the players and the fans if we give
anything less than 100%? We have to go there aiming to win the match and
qualify. It will be tough, but that has to be the goal.
I am gutted I didn’t get a ticket for the match, I’m sure it
will be an excellent night. I think we will go out of the competition, but I still
think going over there for a couple of days, soaking up the atmosphere (and
beer) would be great fun. The Bayern fans were excellent in London. They
arrived, got completely wasted on beer, sung all match long and left happy
chappies. I’m sure our away support will also be as excellent as always, have a
laugh and cheer the team on as best they can.
The Munich fans had huge flags and banners that they waved
throughout the match, I thought it was funny and a little pathetic that when we
scored we hoisted up these massive Arsenal flags but didn’t wave them with
enthusiasm or purpose. It was an embraced half wave, a sort of ‘how quickly can
I put the flag back down’ type thing. I don’t know why I mentioned this but it
made me wonder why we bother. The last time we had those flags at the Stadium,
the young lad who was doing the waving dropped the thing onto a camera man’s
head. The camera man got knocked spark out and lay there on the floor for about
8 minutes while the stewards panicked with what to do with him.
My six a side team play tonight. We are playing against a
team we all hate, they winge and wine all the way through the match. The call
the reff to give a foul for everything. They are also only two points behind us
in third. If we have any ambition of winning we need to win as we have the
league leaders next week. Come on Cromwell!!
Anyway, I hope yall have a good start to your week. We will
let you know how we get on.
