Wednesday Waffle - Worried Wenger & Wingbacks

Good Afternoon Reader,

I hope you’ve had a pleasing day so far and have readied yourself for the upcoming arsenal news with a nice cuppa and a slice of granny’s Victoria sponge. I’m in a somewhat more hostile environment but I know that Pumpkiii, wherever he may be, always has a slice and a thermos at the ready for just such an occasion.

And now on to the Arsenal news as I understand it.

Start today with Nicky B. The not so Great Dane has got done for drinking driving. I think I read some where he was 3 times over the limit of 0.5 units of drunkenness. I know nothing about the limits or the rules in Denmark so it impossible to know whether he was plane drunk or completely paralytic, what’s completely possible to know is how completely stupid and arrogant he was doing it.

It compacted by the fact he can afford the cab/driver and its reported he was driving the wrong way up a one way street. A fantastically dangerous thing.

It’s a shame that he’s messing up he career, not that I care that much or have a great deal of sympathy. He looked promising for a while but he never quite kicked on to really become the striker he thought he was and the striker we hoped he was going to be.

He was stuck out on the right and never really produced, so off to Sunderland he went which I thought would be an ideal opportunity for him. Playing straight through the middle with the team more or less build around him. Instead of getting on with it and proving he was worth a starting place at Arsenal he seemed to embrace the party lifestyle and took to smashing cars up with Lee Cattermole.

He managed to get a loan to Juve where he’s managed to put on sufficient weight not to get picked and now he’s injured. Juve don’t want him and are looking to return him to Arsenal on the grounds he’s got nicked. The Danish FA have banned him for 6 months.

Things have turned bad for him. He seemed to start believing his own hype; maybe he got too much too young and thought he’d made it before his career had even started. Once Arsenal get rid of him I would imagine he’ll struggle to get a club of note and become the Party Prince of Denmark. Next time you’ll see him he’ll be some obsess dude on the front cover of Hello!

Other news and Arsene has been taking about how he’s concerned that another loss at the hands of Bayern Munich might mentally disturb his team even further. You can only imagine to the past the point of no return. What happens then I don’t know. Does the new ‘long term treatment centre’ have the facility to change into an asylum? Will people turned mad with grief. I really hope not but will have to see.

Getting knocked out of competitions effects players, they are mostly only humans after all but they’ve had 10 days to possibly come to terms with what might happen, its not going to be a massive shock if we go out so I don’t want it to be used as any sort of excuse in not performing after in the league.

The likelihood we were going to win the champions league were slim to begin with and the chance we’re going to knock Bayern out at their place is about as slim as a slim man going on hunger strike while eating slimming pills on a treadmill in a sauna. Very slim indeed! Let’s hope we do it but let’s not take 5 games to get over it if we don’t, there are points in the league to play for as well as careers.

Continuing the team analysis, it has come round to me having a little look see at the wing backs. I will keep my analysis short on these heroes of the modern game and give then a little synopsis and a mark out of 10.

Sagna – Loved his consistency. Physically strong, direct, didn’t seem to take any nonsense. Got forward when he could and was always back when he needed. Final cross was a bit lacking but that’s not unique in the arsenal set up. Great full back who looked good enough to play for anyone in the league. Struck up a good relationship with Walcott. Manages to deal with the extra exposure 4-3-3 has on full backs. Recently off the boil. Had about three or four below par games, really noticeable contrast to his usual performances, contract and recent bad injuries have been voiced as the reason. Strong as an Ox against Sunderland away, one of the performances of the season. Sagna gets 10/10 mainly for braids.

Jenko – Runs like a giraffe. Big Gooner. Looks to get up and down. None stop running. Young guy and still learning but learning quickly. Rate him, need to smooth the edges and keep on progressing but definitely going the right way. 10/10 mainly because he’s a Gooner.

Santos – I’d have him do the BBQ if I was having a pool party. 0/10 mainly because he swapped shirts with VP.

Gibbs – Similar to Jenko. Looks good and promising. Endless running with a view to get forward. Seriously injury prone. Always seems to be out. 5/10 mainly because he looks good but don’t see him enough.

Nacho – Great name. Looks steady. Looked nervous against smurs but then so would I. Ringer for peter crouch. Too soon to judge as he hasn’t even played 10 games yet but look like he might be good. 10/10 mainly because of his name.

That’s your lot. Tomorrow Pumpkiii will but putting his cake and thermos down just long enough to pick up his quill and write a little on our CBs. Something I’m very much looking forward to, hopefully he’ll do it as though he’s broadcasting it on a CB radio…just a thought.

Until next time!

Come on you reds!
